7% of marketers see immediate return on investment in social media channels. This allows them to increase budgets and spend liberally to improve results. This is a really high number considering that social media has been around for only a short time.

However, about quarter (27%) of the respondents didn’t see tangible value in social media and were skeptic about investing more.

    Like any marketing activity, you need to start using social media to understand where the benefits for your organisation lie. Until you’ve invested time and energy into a concerted campaign, you really can’t make a sensible decision. My business would be in the 7% that achieves measurable ROI and even direct sales – but it takes faith to get to that point.

    The thing with starting without proof is THE problem for some companies where failures are punished. They only use “proven” tactics and thus never innovate.
