Social Media Weekend: Quora and BranchOut
If you haven’t lived under large rock in the last few months you have probably heard of these two newcomers to social media landscape.
BranchOut brings career networking to Facebook. Somewhat similar to LinkedIn. Branchout helps you to connect professionally. It is a LinkedIn competitor and one of the first things it suggest you to do is to import you LinkedIn profile. I have long held an opinion that for regular people, as oppose to marketing droids, being on multiple social networks is not reasonable behavior. But… I actually thought that LinkedIn is an exception. Guess what? There just wasn’t good enough alternative of it on Facebook. Seems that now there is and going on LinkedIn for professional networking might loose it’s appeal.
Quora is a continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it. It’s a bit like Twitter in a sense that you can follow stuff. The stuff is people, topics and questions. Sometimes you can find pretty good answers. Obviously the quality of the answers depends on the size of the site and popularity of the topic. Some answers are really deep. I haven’t got the real hold of the community site of the Quora yet. As I said before world doesn’t need another social networking site. So, how’s Quora going to make itself relevant?
