The 3 E’s of Social Media – Traffic Boosting Secrets Revealed
When I first started working towards building a niche on the internet, I quickly realized I didn’t have a clue. Oh, google managed to direct me to several marketing gurus and they all echoed the same information I had already heard from other marketing instructors and books written by various inspirational business leaders. But when it came time to put that advice into practice I continually fell short.
I didn’t know where I was going wrong. I was posting content daily, sharing the content with Facebook and Twitter, even commenting on dozens of niche blogs daily in the hopes of building traffic, but still it just didn’t roll in as quickly as I would have liked. I was so embarrassed by the lack of traffic coming to my personal blog that I was apprehensive about putting myself out there as a freelance writer available for hire.

Then, while conducting research for a series of articles I was writing, I came across a podcast hosted by James Martell, featuring Stephanie Lichtenstein of Micro Media Management. Once I started applying their proven techniques I noticed a significant boost in my traffic, practically overnight. Turns out, as relevant as my content may have been, my no-nonsense business attitude made my message come across as preachy and disconnected from my audience. I was able to get the message of my material back on track by applying what industry insiders refer to as the 3 E’s.
The 1-2-3’s of E-E-E
- Educate – Ideally your audience should come away with a lesson they feel is so valuable and useful they cannot help but share their newly obtained knowledge with friends and family alike. If you’ve been following along with my other articles about social networking, then you already know that adding a convenient way to share your articles is vital.
There’s nothing more frustrating than reading a page that is filled with great information only to discover there’s no easy way to share on Facebook or reTweet the information. If I’m impatient enough to just move on, I’m not the only one.
- Engage – Try to leave your topic open for discussion by asking a specific question as a call to action to generate comments from your followers. Some of my best content comes from questions asked by readers, because it gives me a better perspective on what my audience wants to know and allows me to respond directly to their needs.
- Entertain – Entertaining your audience is as easy as being yourself, and remembering to keep your stories real, and personal. You can tell when someone is being fake, or just going for the affiliate conversion, isn’t it safe to assume your audience can tell when your being less-than-stellar? Let them see you, flaws and all, especially if those flaws can be turned into an entertaining story complete with a valuable lesson.

At the end of the day you want your corner of the internet to develop its own unique community of contributors and followers alike. Don’t expect it to happen overnight, like anything worth doing it requires proper planning, nurturing, and management.
