Top 10 Social Networking Sites by Market Share of Visits [September 2015]

Top 10 Social Networking Sites by Market Share of Visits September 2015In September 2015 Twitter, Reddit, and Pinterest reached the highest points in their market penetration.

Twitter and Reddit with Youtube and Facebook are now the most important social networking sites in US by market share of visits. Newcomer to the list Reddit with its 4.35% market share almost matches Twitter. Both of them have a healthy lead on Pinterest that take 5th position with 1.54% market share.

Tumblr and Instagram have lost some ground but in general are placed in their usual range.

Google+ keeps declining. Its now below 1% level with only 0.97% of market share. It will take about 2 to 4 months until Google+ is gone from top 10. Told you so! On August 23, 2011 As you can see from older post Google was faking/misrepresenting it’s data the whole time:

For some reason Google decided to pul the plug. What do you think which site will take its place on the Top 10 list? I would guess that it’ll be Yelp.

About this chart

Every month the chart lists the top 10 sites of that time by the market share of visits in US. Please note that it is just a percentage and 30% in January 2012 is a lot less than 30% in December 2012. The gaps in the the lines mean that the site wasn’t in the top 10 at that time. The chart is in logarithmic scale so that the smaller sites wouldn’t just a single line around 1% of social network market share.

I used an interactive chart making software Tableau Public for this visualization. If you don’t see anything below please try reload. If all else fails then:

The chart is interactive so play around with it!

This data has no credibility. Google+ being the last one of all those utterly unknown social networking sites is just very implausible.

    • G+ will be gone from the list in a few months. Probably replaced by Yelp. Which of theses is “utterly unknown”?
